TERMIS-AM Award Recipients
TERMIS-AM would like to announce the call for nomination packages for consideration for the
2024 TERMIS-AM Awards Program.
Nomination packages for the 2024 TERMIS-AM Awards Program are due Janaury 22, 2024
Please review the eligibility criteria for each award below. Nomination packages are to be submitted to the Executive Administrator by the deadline. If you have any questions, please reach out to swilburn@termis.org.
Lifetime Achievement Award
The Lifetime Achievement Award has been established to recognize an individual who has contributed immensely to the tissue engineering and regenerative medicine field. The award will be presented to an individual whose work has impacted and assisted with laying the foundation stones for the field. The person must be a TERMIS-Americas member and be nominated by a member of TERMIS-Americas. The person should provide a summary of the nominee's achievement(s), one (1) letter of recommendation, and the nominee's curriculum vitae. An individual cannot apply for the award. The individual would not be required to submit a full manuscript, as the awardee may no longer be working in the field or may be retired from the field. However, the awardee will be asked to write a one page overview of their career and accomplishment that may be considered for publication in the journal, Tissue Engineering. The call for nominations will be announced to the TERMIS-Americas membership prior to the TERMIS-Americas Annual Conference. The awardee will be chosen by the TERMIS-Americas Awards Committee.

- A plaque
The TERMIS-Americas Awards Committee will need to receive the following information regarding the nominee:
- Curriculum Vitae
- One (1) letter of recommendation
- The letter of recommendation should include:
- Individual's impact on the field of TERM
- Individual's contribution/involvement in the Society.
- Individual's impact on training and education to the next generation.
- The letter of recommendation should include:
- Confirmation of attendance at the 2023 TERMIS-AM Conference.
Senior Scientist Award
The Senior Scientist Award is based on an individual's significant contributions to the tissue engineering and regenerative medicine field. Individuals nominated for the Senior Scientist Award must have received their terminal degree 10 years or greater from the time of the award, be actively contributing to the tissue engineering and regenerative medicine field, and their contributions as a body of work should be well recognized within the community. An individual nominated for the Senior Scientist Award cannot be eligible for the Young Investigator Award. To be considered for this award, the person must be a TERMIS-Americas member, and may apply for the award or be nominated by a TERMIS-Americas member. The nomination must include: curriculum vitae, one (1) letter of recommendation, and a one page summary of contributions. The call for nominations will be announced prior to the TERMIS-Americas Annual Conference. The awardee will be selected by the TERMIS-Americas Awards Committee.
The Senior Scientist Awardee will be presented with the following from TERMIS-Americas:
- Must be available to present their work at the 2023 TERMIS-AM conference;
- A plaque
The TERMIS-Americas Awards Committee will need to receive the following information regarding the nominee:
- Curriculum Vitae
- One (1) letter of recommendation
- The letter of recommendation should include:
- Individual's impact on the field of TERM
- Individual's contribution/involvement in the Society.
- Individual's impact on training and education to the next generation.
- The letter of recommendation should include:
- One-page summary of contributions
- Confirmation of attendance at the 2023 TERMIS-AM Conference.
Young Investigator Award
The Young Investigator Award will be presented to an individual who has demonstrated outstanding achievements within the tissue engineering and regenerative medicine field. The individual will be selected based on a publication or a collection of manuscripts focused within a particular area of research. Candidates for the award must be within 10 years of receipt of their terminal degree and must not be tenured at the time of the nomination (if working within academia).To be considered for this award, the person must be a TERMIS-Americas member, and may apply or be nominated by a TERMIS-Americas member. The call for nominations will be announced prior to the TERMIS-Americas Annual Conference. The awardee will be selected by the TERMIS-Americas Awards Committee.
The Young Investigator Awardee will be presented with the following from TERMIS-Americas:
- Must be available to present their work at the 2023 TERMIS-AM conference;
- A plaque
The TERMIS-Americas Awards Committee will need to receive the following information regarding the nominee:
- Curriculum Vitae
- Publication or collection of manuscripts (the establishment of an independent research career, as demonstrated by research publications, is important criteria)
- One (1) letter of recommendation
- The letter of recommendation should include:
- Individual's impact on the field of TERM
- Individual's contribution/involvement in the Society.
- Individual's impact on training and education to the next generation.
- The letter of recommendation should include:
- Confirmation of attendance at the 2023 TERMIS-AM Conference.
Outstanding Postdoc Award
The Outstanding Postdoc award will be presented to a Postdoctoral fellow/associate/assistant who has shown outstanding research accomplishments within the tissue engineering and regenerative medicine field. The postdoc will be selected must be a member of TERMIS and must have an accepted abstract for the annual TERMIS-Americas conference. The manuscript must be original work; not a review. An indiviual cannot apply for the award. To be considered, the individual must be a TERMIS-Americas member and be nominated by a TERMIS-Americas member. The postdoc award recipient will be selected by the TERMIS-AM Awards Committee.
The Outstanding Postdoc Awardee will be presented with the following from TERMIS-Americas:
- Must be available to present their work at the 2023 TERMIS-AM conference;
- A plaque
The TERMIS-Americas Awards Committee will need to receive the following information regarding the nominee:
- Curriculum Vitae
- Certification of postdoctoral status
- TERMIS-AM Abstract
- One (1) letter of recommendation
- Confirmation of attendance at the 2023 TERMIS-AM Conference.
The Mary Ann Liebert, Inc. Outstanding Student Award
The Outstanding Student Award will be presented to a student (undergraduate/graduate) who has shown outstanding research accomplishments within the tissue engineering and regenerative medicine field. The student will be selected based upon a manuscript submitted or published within the past 12 months to be eligible (November 2021 - October 31, 2022). It does not have to be accepted at the time of nomination, but it needs to be at least submitted. The individual must be a member of TERMIS-Americas. The award manuscript will be published in the journal, Tissue Engineering, Part A with appropriate recognition. The manuscript must be original work; not a review. An individual cannot apply for the award. To be considered, the individual must be a TERMIS-Americas member and be nominated by a TERMIS-Americas member. The call for nominations will be announced prior to the TERMIS-Americas Annual Conference. The student will be selected by the TERMIS-Americas Awards Committee.
The Mary Ann Liebert, Inc. Outstanding Student Awardee will be presented with the following from TERMIS-Americas:
- Publication of their manuscript in the journal, Tissue Engineering, Part A
- An honorarium of $500
- A travel reimbursement up to $1,000 (airfare and hotel accommodations)
- A plaque
- Must be available to present their work at the 2023 TERMIS-AM conference
The TERMIS-Americas Awards Committee will need to receive the following information regarding the nominee:
- Curriculum Vitae
- Certification of student status
- Manuscript submitted or published within the past 12 months to be eligible (November 2021 - October 31, 2022)
- One (1) letter of recommendation
- Confirmation of attendance at the 2023 TERMIS-AM Conference.
Educational, Training and Outreach Award
The Educational, Training and Outreach Award will be presented based on the accomplishments of an individual in one or more areas related to education, training and outreach within the fields of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Educational accomplishments include but are not limited to: published textbooks, educational resources available to the broad community, educational short courses, workshops and webinars. Training accomplishments include but are not limited to: leadership or research training workshops, mentorship programs, establishment of conference resources for trainees. Outreach accomplishments include but are not limited to: K-12 outreach programs, efforts to broaden participation or increase inclusivity, public science communication and advocacy. The award seeks to recognize lifetime achievements as well as innovative activities with consideration given to the sustained impact of the work and the community benefiting from the activity.
To be considered, the individual must be a TERMIS-Americas member and be nominated by a TERMIS-Americas member. An individual cannot apply for the award. The call for nominations will be announced prior to the TERMIS-Americas Annual Conference. The awardee will be selected by the TERMIS-Americas Awards Committee and the SYIS-Americas Committee based on the nomination package including a Statement of Achievement provided by the nominator. The Statement of Achievement should clearly outline: 1) objective and description of the nominee’s work, 2) how does the work serve an unmet need or is different from existing programs, 3) what community is being served and what is the lasting impact, 4) what are the nominee's plans to continue the work.
The Educational, Training and Outreach Awardee will be presented with the following from TERMIS-Americas:
- Must be available to present their work at the 2023 TERMIS-AM conference;
- A plaque
The TERMIS-Americas Awards Committee will need to receive the following information regarding the nominee:
- Curriculum Vitae
- Statement of achievement by nominator (500 words)
- One (1) letter of recommendation
- Confirmation of attendance at the 2023 TERMIS-AM Conference.
Innovation/Commercialization Award
The Innovation/Commercialization Award recognizes the application of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine in the production of a product or technology that ultimately will benefit patients. This award can recognize either an individual or a team. The award can be presented for an existing product or for a newly developed product that has been launched in the last five (5) years, or for a technology launched in the last five (5) years that can facilitate commercialization of a product. To be considered, the individual or team must be a TERMIS-Americas member and may apply or be nominated by a TERMIS-Americas member.
The Innovation/Commercialization Awardee will be presented with the following from TERMIS-Americas:
- Must be available to present their work at the 2023 TERMIS-AM conference;
- A plaque
The TERMIS-Americas Awards Committee will need to receive the following information regarding the nominee:
- Information on the product or technology
- Patent information
- One (1) letter of recommendation
- The letter of recommendation should include:
- Individual's impact on the field of TERM
- Individual's contribution/involvement in the Society.
- Individual's impact on training and education to the next generation.
- The letter of recommendation should include:
- Any additional relevant information about the product or technology - i.e., impact, revenues, and broad applicability
- Confirmation of attendance at the 2023 TERMIS-AM Conference.
